Extensive repairs were carried out, principally to the roofs and external walls, in accordance with the recommendations of a report from Simpson & Brown Architects, commissioned by the Co-Proprietors of the Vaults in 2005. Concurrently, works were also carried out to replace a number of unsympathetic windows, doors and dormers with more appropriate ones. This work was a matter of some public interest, as it aided in the conservation of a building of considerable architectural and historical significance in the Leith streetscape.
